Scribl, Patreon, & Noisetrade

Posted on June 1, 2014

scriblI’ve recently come across three interesting web sites—Scribl, Patreon, and Noisetrade–that could potentially benefit both writers and readers. Each has its own new twist on book distribution, which is exciting to see, since the democratization of the internet (and of the ebook industry) is often in question.

I’ll cover each of these new sites in a different post over the next week or two. First, up…Scribl! [Read more…]

More Thoughts on Also Boughts

Posted on April 12, 2013

also_boughts2A little update on the Also Boughts issue at Amazon: it’s obvious now that the wholesale removal of ABs is not a permanent change and that the book seller is split-testing its consumer base like mad. The testing is definitely occurring across browsers, with major differences amongst Internet Explorer, Mozzila Firefox, and Chrome.

Tip Tuesday: Three Great Goodreads Tips

Posted on October 16, 2012

As an indie author, I’ve increasingly found Goodreads to be one of the best places to reach readers but–maybe even better–I’ve found it to be a great place to relax and just be a reader, as well. But since the focus of this blog is writing and the indie life, I’d like to share three Goodreads tips for writers (I may do a blog someday about being a great Goodreads reader).

Me in my (literary) underwear

Posted on August 18, 2012

While I continue to toil with Part II of my Book Cover Design Primer, I’m also trying to put out Blueblood, the second in the Marty Singer crime fiction series.

The good news is that the line edits came back from my editor, the inimitable Alison Dasho. The bad news is that I have to go through my manuscript as meticulously as she did and weigh her suggestions, then either make or disregard them (the latter does not happen very often). The impact Alison’s line edits have made are already obvious to me and I’m only a third of the way through.

Cover for Marty Singer’s next adventure…Blueblood

Posted on August 9, 2012

While we’re on the subject of covers (see yesterday’s post), I thought I would take the opportunity to release the tentative cover for Blueblood, the second in the Marty Singer mystery series.

I’ll be posting more about the release of Blueblood very soon, including an excerpt and other goodies. The last draft is with my editor as we speak, going through those precious little tweaks that often make all the difference. My goal is to release in digital form for all sellers (Amazon, Kobo, B&N, etc.) by the third week of August. With luck and hard work, it will be available by the last week of August or early September.

Let me know what you think of the cover in the Comments!
