The case of the haunted e-book

Ack! I need a young priest and an old priest…

For those of you who have picked up a copy of Finding Emma, you may have noticed a particular typo at about the half-way point of the book. Out of nowhere (as most typos are known to appear), the words “He Doug” starts a sentence.

It’s bad enough that the thing is a typo.

It’s worse that there is no “Doug” in the story.

It’s really bad that this typo doesn’t appear anywhere in my original document.

A Colossal Waste of Time

In preparation for promoting some upcoming titles, I wanted to check in with the giveaway page on Librarything.com and see if anything had changed since I ran some giveaways of my own back in November and January.

Things have changed all right. Imagine my surprise when I saw this news blurb on the LT homepage:

There are 11,007,517 copies of 85 books being given away.

Err…what?

Book Reviewing: Fight Writers Block and Make Friends At the Same Time

I don’t have the writers block of popular imagination, the blank white screen and blinking cursor that keeps me paralyzed for hours. But I do have a “writers reluctance,” which in some ways might be even more insidious. This is a familiar syndrome for most of you, where the distractions of meta-writing—research, outlining, emailing, formatting an e-book, reading industry news, and, uh, writing blogs—get in the way of actually writing, even though all of this activity feels like you’re making progress.
